David is the managing director of Brookes law, a law firm he took over after the death of his father Charles Hughes(in loving memory) going through a difficult childhood. “That experience made me determined to offer all the help I can to others facing painful circumstances", he said Before taking up his late father's law firm, David was in his third year of studying law in the presitgious Dundee University, after which he graduated and went to law school before taking over from his father. He read law at Dundee University, qualifying as a solicitor in 1991 while completing his training contract at Thomson Snell & Passmore David specialises in wills, claim of inheritance and estate, administration of estates, lasting powers of attorney, court of protection applications, probate disputes, inheritance tax and NHS continuing care appeals. He is also a member of the Judicial Shadowing Programme, which provides lawyers with insight into the work of a judge.
Director, Solicitor, Litigation
A specialist in civil litigation, Gore takes on a wide-ranging caseload including commercial, building and contractual disputes, contentious probate, debt actions, and property issues such as neighbour and boundary disputes and service charge claims for tenants and landlords. After leaving university, Gore undertook his legal training in London practice before setting up his own law firm in 2003. In 2016, He joined forces with Brookes law Firm. Gore is also an accredited mediator, believing strongly in resolving issues before getting to court. In his experience, he believes that “mediation leads to a far better outcome in terms of time, stress and money than litigation”. He states that “where people want to retain relationships, parties can walk away from mediation having resolved their dispute with their relationship intact”. He proposes mediation very early in any dispute and has found that 90% of cases using mediation reach a satisfactory resolution. “I take great pleasure in helping people get a satisfactory outcome, whether it be through litigation or mediation and I like to believe that in doing so, I have made a difference in the client’s life” Interests: dancing, singing and spending time with his family.
Senior Associate and Head of the Private Client Team
Philip Lewis is a Senior Associate and Head of the Private Client Team. He qualified as a solicitor in 1998 working for a national law firm based in North London and then moved to provincial practices around Notthingham and Central London before joining Brookes Law in 2015. Philip Lewis specialises in all aspects of private client work including Wills, Trusts, Tax Planning, Probate and Lasting Powers of Attorney. Interests are travelling with his family, entertaining friends and family and he is a keen fan of football naming his best football club "Manchester United" he said
Receptionist/Clerk
Whitney came from a Financial background before joining Brookes Law as a Receptionist. She now not only helps in the Conveyancing Department and so seeing the other side to when she processed mortgage applications. Whitney also helps the other departments as well as looking after our clients with teas and coffees and answering the phones, she is a general all-rounder.
Head of Accounting
Barry is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, having qualified with top firms before joining Brookes Law Firm. Barry left his old firm to start up his practice in Chartered Accounting in 2011, bringing his knowledge and experience of accounting tax to SME’s and small businesses
Solicitor
Aaron is a Solicitor currently within the Family and Criminal department. Aaron supports the department in all areas of Criminal cases, including contract disputes, fraud and financial crimes, misrepresentation, professional negligence, boundary and trespass. Aaron also assists the team with all aspects of family law, including divorce, high net worth financial disputes, nuptial agreements and children matters. As well as providing support, Aaron also manages his own matters. Before qualifying as a Solicitor he worked for several years with leading merchant banks in the City of London in the commercial and trade finance sectors. He then followed his life-long ambition of qualifying as a Solicitor in 2010. His clients have always found him to be friendly and personable and have provided him with glowing testimonials both in respect of his professional work ethic, problem solving skills and empathetic manner. In Aaron's free time he enjoys playing cricket at club friendly level, although he has previously represented his district and county. He also enjoys football and swimming
Trainee Solicitor
Olivia joined Brookes Law after qualifying as a Solicitor in September 2019 to work in the Litigation department. Olivia went to the University of Bristol where she majored in Law and minored in Physcology, she then went on to the University of Law in Glasgow She completed her Legal Practice Course in 2014. Olivia finds her motivation in helping people and providing a high quality of client service
Head of Conveyance
Heidi has been working in Brookes Law Firm for 9 years and qualified as a Licenced Conveyancer in 2007. Working in Brookes law, she has developed a strong working relationship with many of the local estate agents. Heidi also prides herself in the high standard of client care she offers her clients and dealing with matters in a manner which is acceptable and practical.
